My Information web

This week we did a information web about the waitohu awa.

WALT: Write an information report

The Health of the Waitohu Awa

This science report is about the Waithou Awa. In this report I will discuss the location, the stream habitat, the water quality, and aquatic animals found at the awa.

Location and Description

The awa flows from the Tararua Ranges and enters the sea at the north end of Ōtaki beach. The land cover in the catchment is farmland and the Tararua Ranges. There’s a little hill of rocks. There are flat rocks down near the awa. There’s a little sand island with a little stump with trees and plants. It goes from a little pool and flows down. The Expressway bridge goes across the awa.

Stream Habitat

The stream bed of the Waitohu Awa is stones. This is excellent. There is a medium layer of algae on the awa stones. It starts at a pool and then it flows down to where the sand area is. There is some shade. There’s some erosion. The habitat of the stream is good.

Water Quality

Using a thermometer we tested the temperature of the awa. It was 100C. A clarity tube was used to find out how clear the water was. We found out the water clarity was at 70cm to 100cm.  Conductivity is a measure of the ability of water to pass an electrical current. The lower the measure the better. Reading the conductivity meter showed 100μS/cm. The water quality was excellent.

Aquatic Animals

Taking a sample from the awa, we saw there were freshwater crayfish, two small fish and some invertebrates. This shows the water was excellent for aquatic animals.

This report was about the health of the Waitohu Awa and included information about the stream habitat, the water quality and aquatic animals. I think the water quality and habitat for animals in this stream is excellent.

Tram

Today I learned that it is important to learn the word tram so I can use it in my writing.I made some word art for my word’s.
